About Mr Rohit Gohil

Mr Rohit Gohil is a Consultant ENT Surgeon based in Edinburgh, specialising in diseases of the nose and sinuses, advanced endoscopic surgery and rhinoplasty. He was appointed as a Consultant in Edinburgh in 2021 and also holds the role of Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Edinburgh, reflecting his commitment to both clinical excellence and medical education.

Experience and expertise

His consultant practice encompasses the full scope of adult ear, nose and throat surgery, with a highly specialised focus on rhinology. He is an expert in treating patients suffering from nasal blockage, nasal discharge, rhinitis, smell disturbance and smell loss, sinusitis, nasal allergy and nasal trauma. He also has extensive experience in nasal reconstruction and nose reshaping, offering septorhinoplasty and rhinoplasty to improve both nasal function and facial appearance.

Mr Gohil is also specialised in the treatment of nasal tumours and extended applications of endoscopic sinus surgery. He regularly collaborates with colleagues in neurosurgery and ophthalmology to deliver complex endoscopic skull base surgery, providing advanced care for patients with challenging and rare conditions.

Education and qualifications

He graduated from the University of Nottingham Medical School in 2010 with a Bachelor of Medical Sciences, Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. Following this, he completed his basic surgical training in the East Midlands before moving to Scotland for specialist ENT training, working in major regional centres including Edinburgh and Dundee. During this time, he was selected to undertake a highly competitive 12-month Skull Base Fellowship in Edinburgh, gaining specialist expertise in complex endoscopic surgery.

Mr Gohil achieved his Certificate of Completion of Surgical Training in Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery in 2020. He then completed further post-certification subspecialist fellowship training in the Wessex Deanery between 2020 and 2021, focusing on endoscopic skull base surgery in Southampton alongside advanced rhinology, facial plastic surgery, septorhinoplasty and endoscopic sinus surgery across specialist centres in the region.

Research and teaching

Alongside his clinical work, Mr Gohil is a passionate educator. He teaches medical students, trainee surgeons and consultant colleagues on courses throughout Scotland and the UK, with a particular focus on rhinology, endoscopic skull base surgery, septorhinoplasty and facial plastic surgery.

He is also actively involved in clinical research and currently supports and mentors several ongoing projects. His academic interests include functional considerations in septorhinoplasty, ergonomics in endoscopic skull base surgery, and novel transorbital endoscopic approaches to the skull base. Notably, the Edinburgh ENT and neurosurgical departments were the first in Scotland to undertake these innovative techniques.
